Endings and Beginnings: A Blessing For The Future

This coming Shabbat we will read Parshat Vayechi, which opens with the words “Vayechi Yaakov” – and Yaakov lived. As Yaakov approaches the end of his life, his attention turns to the future: blessing his children and grandchildren, clarifying values, and taking responsibility for all that will endure beyond him. Parshat Vayechi teaches us that the future is shaped through purpose, foresight, and compassion. At Libenu, this perspective guides our mission. Our work with individuals with disabilities is a life-long commitment, grounded in dignity, belonging, and promise for the future.

Yaakov blesses each child individually, acknowledging their differences and recognizing their distinct strengths. This approach lies at the heart of Libenu’s philosophy. We focus on abilities, not limitations, and on creating environments where individuals with disabilities can grow, contribute, and thrive. We know that our community is strongest when every individual is recognized as a blessing, with inherent value and created B’Tzelem Elokim – in the image of Hashem.

Parshat Vayechi is also about continuity and how endings give rise to new beginnings. Yaakov’s blessings link one generation to the next, affirming that Jewish identity and belonging are sustained over time. Libenu carries this responsibility forward, ensuring that individuals with disabilities are supported across the full arc of their lives — today, tomorrow, for life.

As we enter a new year, we draw strength from these blessings and recommit ourselves to building a future grounded in compassion, inclusion, and hope.

Wishing you good health, happiness, success, and peace in 2026,

Shana Erenberg, CEO
