Belonging: A Light in the Darkness
As we light the Chanukah menorah, we are reminded that even the smallest spark can dispel the deepest darkness. Chanukah commemorates a time when a small band of dedicated Jews found the courage to stand up against a powerful enemy to preserve the Torah and their Jewish identity. The Maccabees faced formidable odds, yet their determination and unwavering faith in Hashem illuminated a path forward, preserving the cherished values of our people and kindling a flame of faith and strength that continues to guide us today.
Just as a small amount of oil – enough for only one day – miraculously burned for eight days, so too does the spirit of Libenu shine brightly in our community, spreading light and inspiration. Each day, Libenu kindles a flame of belonging for individuals with disabilities, ensuring that they are embraced, included, and loved. Our residents and respite participants illuminate our community through their unique strengths and talents, reminding us that every individual is cherished and created b’tzelem Elokim—in the image of Hashem. At Libenu, we see how compassion, understanding, and connection can dispel the darkness, reminding us that miracles unfold when we believe in one another and affirm the worth of every life.
In times that may feel challenging, let us remember that we are all capable of bringing light to the world. Every smile offered, every understanding hand extended, every heartfelt act of inclusion—these are the miracles that create a more just, caring, and compassionate community. Together, we can light the flame of hope and possibility for individuals with disabilities and their families, ensuring that none are left in the shadows. Let’s continue to illuminate a pathway of inclusion and belonging for all.
Wishing you a bright and joyous Chanukah!

Libenu’s Annual Lev Respite Chanukah Party
An Evening of Community and Joy!
Libenu’s annual Lev Respite Chanukah party was a night to remember, filled with warmth, love, and community. Over 175 family members and friends came together for an evening filled with light and joy. The highlight of the evening was the incredible Chanukah play performed by the respite participants, who radiated confidence and had a chance to shine onstage as parents watched with happiness and pride. A beautiful video showcasing Libenu’s impactful respite programs – Lev After-School, Lev Lilah, and Camp Lev – was met with smiles and applause. Tova Klein and Yossi Kark gave a moving tribute in memory of their dear friend and our beloved respite participant, Dovi Porush z’l, which touched hearts and added a meaningful moment to the program. Guests enjoyed delicious pizza, crispy latkes, and sweet sufganiot, and each family left with festively wrapped gifts that brought excitement and happiness to the children. The warmth of the evening, the sense of belonging, and unity truly embodied the spirit of Chanukah and Libenu.
Kudos to Neshahma Muchnik, Meira Robinson, Michal Sollofe, and Pessie Stern for their incredible dedication and hard work in putting together this wonderful celebration. Heartfelt thanks to all of the respite staff and volunteers who went above and beyond to make the evening a great success. Yasher Koach to Rivka Schaffel, Supervisor of the Lev Respite programs, whose passion and tireless efforts make the magic happen every day. Thank you to Dina Baker, Libenu’s Director of Programs, Kaley Cohen our Nurse/Admin, and volunteer Rich Magid for your invaluable assistance. We also immensely grateful to JCFS, CHUSY, and Amazon for their generous donation of the Chanukah presents that made our children feel cherished and loved. Together, you created a night filled with the true light and joy of Chanukah!
